Car Insurance Lincoln (Car Insurance). Is there anyway that I can find out the original car dealer for a used car I am looking at buying?

Is there anyway that I can find out the original car dealer for a used car I am looking at buying? I have the VIN number, and am hoping to be able to find out the original car dealer. Australia only please...thanks!

The only way you will be able to find out who the original dealer was is to check the service records book. The first service on a new car is generally covered by the dealership. If the service book isn't with the car and the current owner doesn't have it then you won't be able to find out which dealership the car came from. I am not sure the car facts website works in Australia but you can try.

Lincoln . HELP: if my car has several problems, will it be safe to drive it to the mechanic or what should I do?

HELP: if my car has several problems, will it be safe to drive it to the mechanic or what should I do? Ok, so my car has several problems which have overwhelmed me and are beyond me and my patience. I bought a used car and it has become a pain because everyday I discover more new problems. To start with, I need an oil change, I bought a new timing belt and I need the mechanic to install it, the car has a small leak near the radiator cap which causes it to drip small amounts of coolant and let out vapor, I need to do tune up (change filters and other maintanance stuff), and I need to get a new battery installed. The car runs, but it has a very strange sound. It has 88K miles, and I am getting completely paranoid about driving it to the mechanic because I think its gonna break down on me. It would take me about 10 minutes to get to my mechanic drving at an average of 40 mph. I dont wanna rev the car too much so not to stress the engine (mainly because of low and old oil and timing belt) here's a video of how the engine sounds (NOTE: THE CAR DIDNT SOUND LIKE THIS WHEN I BOUGHT IT, the battery died and I jumped started it and it started with this weird sound) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGO6TUB_EyQ What should I do? I am a young person and it is my first car. I only have a small amount of money and I had saved it for gas but nope just my luck I will have to spend it all on fixing the car. Help is appreciated car insurance.

Lincoln . Automotive Electrical Systems Troubleshooting & Repair Basics

Problems with automotive electrical systems can have a number of causes. The adverse affects of weather are often to blame, as rain and splashed puddles can seep into cars and trucks, damaging circuitry. Perhaps the most common automotive electrical system failure is when a battery dies, which often requires the use of jumper cables to temporarily make the vehicle -- and its electrical components -- run again. When troubleshooting and repairing electrical problems, it is important to work cautiously and to get the help of an expert if necessary.
No Voltage
All of the electrical components in your car or truck require voltage in order to function. Therefore, according to AA1Car.com (see Reference 1), troubleshooting a malfunctioning automotive electrical system first requires you to test for voltage. You can use two tools to do this: a voltmeter or a 12-volt indicator light (that glows in the presence of voltage). No matter which you use, attach it to the malfunctioning component's voltage source or load point (such as a windshield wiper motor or light bulb). If there is no voltage detected at a load point, this is likely indicative of a blown fuse or a faulty circuit breaker. According to AA1Car.com, replacing a blown fuse will often restore power, but it will not be a permanent fix. You must determine the underlying cause of the blown fuse, which is likely a defective circuit breaker. According to the above source, the simplest way to check if a circuit breaker is functioning properly is to bypass it with the use of a jumper wire. If the electrical component functions when this happens, you will know the circuit breaker is faulty and needs replacing.
Low Voltage
Automotive electrical components require not just voltage, but a specific quantity of voltage to function properly. Two common indications of low voltage are slower-starting engines and dimmer lights. According to AA1Car.com, a low battery could be the cause of low voltage in electrical components. You can use a voltmeter to test the battery, which should read at least 12.43 volts according to the above source. If your battery tests below this amount, recharge or replace it.

Low voltage may also produce electric problems that occur only once in a while, such as the radio or air-conditioning cutting in and out. According to the above source, wiring resistance, such as a corroded or loose connector, usually causes this.

To find the precise location of the problem, use a voltmeter to perform a drop test. This requires you to test consecutive sections of wiring, and look for drops in voltage. A voltage drop of more than .4 volts will indicate a problem area, according to AA1Car.Com.

Lincoln . Automotive Charging System Problems

The charging system of a car is one system that can really make it obvious when there's a problem. An automotive charging system is responsible for supplying current to the car's circuits and for keeping the battery at full charge. Read on to discover the fundamental parts of the automotive charging system, as well as the various problems that can occur and the symptoms that accompany such problems.
Charging system fundamentals
There are six major parts to an automotive charging system. They include the alternator, the voltage regulator, the alternator drive belt, the charge indicator, the charge system wiring harness and the battery. The alternator drive belt transfers power from the engine to drive the alternator, which is an AC generator. After the engine starts, the alternator supplies all the current used by the car and keeps the battery at full charge. Problems with any of these components will show up in various ways.
Symptoms of automotive charging system problems
Four common symptoms of problems with the charging system include a dead battery, an overcharged battery, grinding, buzzing or squealing noises, and a charging system indicator lamp on all the time. Some of these symptoms can be caused by faults in other systems, such as a bad starter, computer failure, or a defective battery, so diagnosis may be tricky.
Automotive charging system problems
A visual inspection of the parts of the charging system will often reveal the cause of the problem, such as a loose or missing drive belt, corroded battery cables or terminals, or wiring problems. Other problems, such as a problem with the voltage regulator, Electronic Control Module or a bad alternator will take further diagnostic tests to discover. Common tests include a charging system output test, a regulator voltage test, a regulator bypass test and a circuit resistance test. These tests are performed with a load tester or a VOM (volt-ohm-milliammeter). Sometimes an oscilloscope can be used to pinpoint the problem.
Test procedures
To use a load tester for a charging system output test, fasten the two leads to the battery and clip the inductive amp pickup around the insulation on the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition key switch to "run" and record the ammeter reading. Start the engine and let it idle. Adjust the load control on the tester until the ammeter shows the current output (do not let the voltage drop below 12 volts). Adding the two ammeter readings will show the total charging system output in amps, which should be compared against the rating of the alternator. This test is the most commonly used to determine if there is a problem with the charging system. The other tests mentioned in the previous section may be used to pinpoint the problem if the charging system output current is found to be low.
Precautions
Disconnect the battery before removing any component of the charging system. Failure to do so may result in damage to sensitive electronic components. Never reverse polarity, or damage might occur to the diodes in the alternator. Don't run the engine with the alternator's output disconnected. Never short or ground any terminal in the charging system unless the instructions in the shop manual indicate otherwise.

3. The excess and used exhaust fumes pass from the turbine to the exhaust system and continue on their way to the tailpipe and out into the air in their usual manner. 4. The more load on the engine, the hotter and faster are the exhaust fumes that turn the turbine. The faster they turn it, the more air the compressor sends to the engine and the faster the engine can go. This unique way of converting exhaust gas energy into mechanical power has a nice merry-goround effect. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Well, usually the first thing an engineer learns is "The simpler, the better," or, as the Zen monks put it, "Less is more." (Ecology, engineering, and philosophy all in a couple of paragraphs! Maybe I ought to change the name of this book to Zen and the Art of Auto Maintenance.) Don't confuse turbocharging with supercharging. A supercharger is a pump that compresses the fuel/air mixture and forces it into the cylinders of a gasoline-powered car: Because superchargers are usually belt-driven by the engine instead of by exhaust gases, they use engine power to increase engine power. Because they're not fuel efficient, they generally are used only to increase the speed of "high-performance," low-efficiency vehicles. Turbocharging kits are available that you can install on conventional vehicles to increase their power and performance. However, because turbocharging places considerable stress on engines that weren't designed with turbocharging in mind, you run the risk of damaging your engine and voiding all existing warranties if you decide to boost Old Faithful with a turbo kit. So investigate the situation carefully before you go this route. Some owners have had marvelous success, and their engines have lived to tell the tale; others haven't been as lucky. Generally speaking, I would never attempt to turbocharge the original engine of an older car, nor would I tinker with anything but a ruggedly built engine in top condition. If Old Faithful is beginning to show the strain of passing years, it would be wiser to recycle the old workhorse and buy yourself a turbo-powered filly! .ver since mechanically propelled vehicles replaced horses as the primary mode of transportation, people have been trying to invent engines that enable vehicles to go faster, cost less, and use fuel more efficiently. After relatively brief romances with steam and electricity, the internal combustion engine became the primary source of automotive power. In the United States and many other parts of the world, gasoline is the preferred fuel for passenger vehicles, while diesel fuel often powers trucks and agricultural and construction equipment. In many parts of the world where gasoline is in short supply, most of the passenger vehicles have diesel engines, too. In recent years, environmental concerns about the impact of automotive exhaust on air quality — plus the fact that the world's supply of petroleum is rapidly diminishing — have created an intense effort to develop vehicles that run on alternative fuels. Vehicles that run on liquid gases of various kinds, electric vehicles (EV), and vehicles driven by exotic hybrid engines and fuel cells are being touted as prime candidates for "Car of the Future." The first section of this chapter tells you everything you need to know about vehicles with diesel engines. The rest of the chapter brings you up-to-date on the alternatives that are currently considered to have the most potential for supplanting the internal combustion engine in years to come. 132 Part II: What Makes It Go?. Diesels For Dummies This section is structured as a mini-version of Auto Repair For Dummies devoted entirely to diesel-powered vehicles. It spells out both the advantages and disadvantages of owning a diesel-powered vehicle and explains how a diesel engine works. It also provides instructions for maintaining and troubleshooting diesels and for finding a good diesel mechanic when your best efforts just aren't enough. Although diesel-powered vehicles are almost universal in a large part of the world where gasoline is almost unavailable, diesel engines are used mainly for heavy equipment in the United States and Canada. Diesel-powered cars exist, but — except for a short period in the 1980s, when fuel shortages made them popular because they got 25 percent more miles per gallon than gasoline engines — they have acquired a reputation for being noisy, underpowered, smelly, and cantankerous. This is not always the case, however. Mercedes-Benz, who pioneered the diesel car as a luxury vehicle decades ago, still makes diesel-powered vehicles that many consider unsurpassed for beauty, performance, high resale value, and high price tags. Volkswagen, whose VW Rabbit was the first peppy, moderately priced diesel car, still offers diesel-powered vehicles, and other manufacturers also offer diesel cars and trucks. If you're considering buying a diesel-powered vehicle, take a good look at the next section before you decide. The good and bad about diesels To accurately compare diesel vehicles with traditional gasoline-powered vehicles, you need to consider a number of pros and cons.

Lincoln . How do you change a left front turn signal light on a 1999 camero?

PRO: Diesels get great mileage. CON: So do vehicles with fuel-efficient gasoline-powered engines, which often cost a couple of thousand dollars less than diesels. You can buy a lot of gas for a couple of thousand dollars! Diesel fuel is not available at many service stations, and although it used to be cheaper than gasoline, it now often costs as much — or more — than gasoline, and it may become even more expensive, depending on availability and demand. PRO: Diesel fuel contains more usable energy than gasoline. CON: Although diesel fuel is considered more efficient because it converts heat into energy rather than sending the heat out the tailpipe as gas-powered vehicles do, it doesn't result in flashy "high performance." A gasoline-powered vehicle is like a racehorse — high-strung, fiery, and fast — whereas a diesel vehicle is more like a workhorse — slow, strong, and (hopefully) enduring. . Chapter 7: Diesels and Alternatively Powered Vehicles 1 22 PRO: Diesels have no spark plugs or distributors. Therefore, they never need a tune-up.
